It feels as though if you were even remotely part of my grandmother’s life, you most likely have a quilt of hers. She made an innumerable amount; most family members have at least one, whether it is a baby blanket for a child or adorns a bed in the house. Grandmother was a measured and precise person in everything, from the hand stitched fabric of her quilt to the Thanksgiving recipe. Her quilting club met frequently throughout the year and shared their knowledge with my sister and me as children as we sat in the den practicing on scraps from the drawer of bits and bobs Grandmother kept in a chest of drawers.

Pictured: My dad mocked up a magazine cover as a fun gift for my grandmother when my sister and I were born in 1995. She kept a framed copy and always thought it was such a sweet gift.

Materials: Gouache on birch panel, sealed with archival cold wax.Titled, dated, and signed on the back and initialed on the front. Unframed.
